To day he enlightens our hearts and our minds
Paolo Morocutti
Forty days after Christmas, on Wednesday 2nd February the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple will be liturgically celebrated. This antique celebration begins with the rite of blessing the candles, Jesus’ symbol of “the light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel”, as Simeon said when he took Jesus into his arms, He is the light and the glory for his people: “Multis enim modis illuminat, et variis donus credentium animas illustrat”. To day he enlightens our hearts and our minds by giving the light to the believers with his gifts. In obedience to the Law of Moses the first born was consecrated to God to perform his redemption by offering a sacrifice.
