Finally time for us

Lent is finally here, a period of preparation of fasting and penance to celebrate Easter and to atone our sins “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, (then) I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3.20...). “So that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden” (Matthew 6,18). The Father who is hidden and who will reward what is done in secret. So fasting must be seen only by God and the one who is fasting must be seen only by God who knows his heart’s secret. In his Sermon for Ash Wednesday Saint Antony makes two suggestions: the “contrition of heart” and “fasting in secret”. It may seem to be distant from our sensitivity but they offer us an ancient wisdom which is very precious for us too.
