A door between the past and the future

I have never liked the count down to New Year. It has always seemed something absurd to me as if it could change people’s lives. In my heart I have always thought, with some hardness, that it is somehow a pagan rite which aims to exorcise the anxiety for the time passing more than to celebrate something new. But, as we must not go on a crusade against the feasts that people like, I thought that I could give a new reading about it. January is the first month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars but it was the eleventh month in the original Roman calendar (where the year started on 1 March with spring that is the season on rebirth); then, from the second half of the second century before Jesus Christ, it became the first month of the year, when the magistrates took office.
