Facing failure

In this month, the reading of the Acts will stop in Athens. We know that Athens is often referred to as the cradle of democracy, it was the capital of philosophers, the strategic centre of politics and trades of Ancient Greece. Anyhow we must remember that at the time of Paul the glorious days of Athens had ended. Corinth was already the political and economic capital, while Alexandria was the most important cultural centre and Athens was just a little town with five thousand inhabitants. Then the author of the Acts underlines that “now all the Athenians as well as the foreigners residing there used their time for nothing else but telling or hearing something new”. (continue)
