Yesterday evening my husband found a spinning top in the box where we “Keep things”... it is a wooden top, an old gift, that was lying there sadly among other objects in the same state. He put the spinning top into motion with a precise shot that continued to spin for many minutes: I have never been able to do it! I tried again after seeing how easily he did it: it seemed to be a pittance but no way! If I tried to do it the spinning top would wobble for few seconds and then stop. My sister who had a collection of tops explained to me that they are among the oldest known toys to be ever discovered by archaeologists. Some of them date back to 6000 years ago; some perfectly preserved tops have been unearthed in Ur, Mesopotamia. (continue)
