On 8 September the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary; it is the first Marian celebration of this month. On 12 September we celebrate the Most Holy Name of Virgin Mary, on 15 September Our Lady of Sorrow. It is a small Marian itinerary that recalls special moments of Mary’s life invoking her as mother, sister and companion of our path. The celebration of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary has antique origins in Western and Eastern Churches. The Evangelists do not mention the birth place of the Virgin Mary. Some accounts say that it was Jerusalem according to an antique tradition mentioned by the Apocryphal Gospel of James. The celebration may have originated by the fourth century dedication of the Basilica of Saint Anne in Jerusalem in the place which had been the home of Mary’s parents; Joachim and Anne...
