Returning to the spirit of Nazareth

This month we are talking about a saint of our time: Charles de Foucauld (1856-1916) who was canonized as a saint on 15 May 2022 by Pope Francis and who is commemorate on 1 December. Speaking to the Association of the Charles de Foucauld spiritual family the Pope called him “a prophet of our time, who knew how to bring to light the essentiality and universality of faith”.

Essentiality, condensing the meaning of believing into two simple words, in which everything is contained: “Iesus - Caritas”; and above all, returning to the spirit of the origins, the spirit of Nazareth. And then universality. The new Saint lived his Christian existence as a brother to all, starting from the smallest. His goal was not to convert others but to live God’s freely given love, putting into effect “the apostolate of goodness”. (continue)
