The benediction of a child

The birth of a child is a new page in the spouses’ life, full of promises and of fear too. All of us, especially the parents, are amazed at the birth of a child: a real miracle of life. As believers we ask ourselves how God looks at a baby, what he thinks when a new life comes into the world. In the Bible children are a heritage and a blessing from God for the parents and for Israel because they are the promise of the future and a sign of hope. On one side God says: “Be fertile and multiply”; (Genesis 1,28) on the other side he tells Abrahm “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can”... Just so, “shall your descendants be” ( Genesis 15 , 5). When Eve conceived and bore Cain, she said: “I have produced a man with the help of the LORD”...
