The goalkeeper is a key figure in the football team, he carries a great responsibility, he is essential for a team’s success on the field. He is the last line of defence, the furthest player from the opposition goal, he instructs the defenders in order to help them achieve the goal. To an untrained eye the goalkeeper’s role may look passive and dull. In reality he is a key figure in the football team, he carries a great responsibility, he is essential for a team’s success in the field. Goalkeeping is a complex position that requires physicality, a strong mentality, and a highly unique set of skills. A good goalkeeper needs to be brave, to be an excellent communicator, focused, determined, he needs to have physical strength, he must have positional awareness; a goalkeeper can be fit, strong and agile but he has to have foresight.
