The Immaculate: the Mother’s gift of love
Fr. Chino Biscontin
Retracing history we can note that simple people believed in the Immaculate Conception before the dogmatic bull of Pope Pius IX on December 8th 1854 and before the theological formulations of the ecclesiastic hierarchies. The example of the Immaculate Conception helps us to consider the Church on the basis of the living reality of popular piety according to Pope Francis’ preaching. Sometimes worshippers confuse the virginal conception of Jesus Christ with the Immaculate Conception that concernsonly Mary, a God’s gift of grace: she was conceived free from original sin by her mother that the tradition calls Anna. Mary was preserved immaculate from all stains of original sin that marked all men and women.
