The link between horse and rider

Saint Anthony interprets in an original way the meaning of the horses of the Apocalypse Could the horse be missing in the “zoo” of Saint Anthony, an animal so present in the image and imagination of many cultures? All the more so in the daily life of friar Anthony, in that close correlation that existed between this animal and the nobility, between horse and rider: one identified the other, mutually. For Anthony, as the son of Saint Francis, his “horse”... were his own feet. Brother Francis had in fact explicitly forbidden his brothers from "riding" unless they were forced to do so by obvious necessity or sickness (Regola bollata, 3,12). And there is also the saying: “the horse of Saint Francis” to indicate the feet on the way!
