The silent steps of the creators of peace

Br. MichaelDavide Semeraro

How many people are engaged in wars, the most dramatic of adventures! How much suffering and how many victims are caused by dictators only looking only to show their strength, for power and money and who are deaf to the plea of those who demand peace! And how terrible are the consequences! Yet I do think that the majority of people want peace and that they are ready to make sacrifices to keep it. What can we do to give voice to the silent majority? Maybe the Church, that is a great organisation, could take action and create peaceful initiatives to shake politicians’ consciousness

D.G.

The Church is doing all what it can to touch the leaders’ hearts, to stop all the wars (in Africa, in Syria and now in Ukraine) and to promote peace. The invitation to “dedicate” the fasting of Ash Wednesday to implore peace is only the tip of the iceberg of what the Pope is doing to promote unity and human fraternity. The Catholic Church has its spiritual means and the Holy See its diplomatic ones: so, without making noise, the Church tries to stop all the unknown and known wars. There are many economic and political interests in the international arena of the States. As our Lord’s disciples and obeying the Gospel we can only say “no” to war beginning to stop little wars in our daily lives and always choosing peace: this demands to renounce our own interests for promoting the good for all.
